What Is Wall Cabinet?

Wall cabinets are the kitchen cabinets that are installed above the countertops. As opposed to base cabinets--which are installed on the floor--wall cabinets are suspended in air by being mounted to the wall. Wall cabinets are installed by first attaching a straight 1x4 at the bottom level of your cabinets to provide support during installation. You then begin your installation with the corner cabinet, setting the cabinet next to it with clamps to keep it even as you install the rest throughout the kitchen. It's also important to install wall cabinets before installing base cabinets so that you have enough room to work during project.

Advantages of Wall Cabinet

Conservation Of Floor Space
Wall mount cabinets are off the floor, sparing you the inconvenience of having to work around them. This is great for people with limited work space. Simply store your equipment inside the cabinet and leave space for other items on the floor.

Flexible Mounting
The design of wall mount cabinets give them flexibility to be installed in various locations, providing the possibility of mounting near conduits or related obstructions while granting convenient access at a suitable height. Available in different heights and depths, wall mount cabinets are suitable for numerous types of applications. This is a huge advantage when you must connect equipment from the cabinet to other devices in the room.

Secure Shielding Of Equipment
Wall mount cabinets are enclosed to shield equipment from dust, scratches and bumps, vibration, and other types of damage. You can even install them at a high level on the wall to prevent unwanted persons from accessing equipment inside.

Suppression Of Overheating
If equipment is properly installed inside a wall mount cabinet, the chance of overheating is minimal thanks to cabinets being designed for fans and integrated ventilation to extract hot air. You might even experience increased equipment performance because of air balancing.

Types of Wall Cabinet

Cabinets With Glass Insets
Glass insets within the hinged cabinet doors give a modern look and bring an element of lightness within the kitchen. Transparent glass panels enable full view of the cabinet's interior without the need to open them, but on the downside they easily show smudges and fingerprints. Consider frosted glass insets for easier maintenance of such kitchen wall cabinets.

Frameless Glass Cabinets
Frameless glass wall cabinets comprise a sheet of glass that works as the door shutter. The combination of decorative ss (stainless steel) hinges, absence of handles and a generous use of frameless glass imparts a high-end sophisticated look to the kitchen. Note that a magnetic push latch is used to open and close these cabinets.

Raised-panel Cabinets
If you want a traditional look for your kitchen, go for raised-panel wall cabinets. These cabinets include a decorative panel (customised as per design) inserted into the frame of the cabinet doors.

Flush-mount Cabinets
An affordable way to create a straight line modern look is with flush-mount kitchen cabinets. These cabinets are very easy to maintain and one can achieve an attractive look with a simple mix-and-match of colourful laminates.

Awning-style Cabinets
The awning-style cabinets are very popular in modular kitchens. The lift-up movement of the cabinet door is easy to use and ensures safety because it does not hit the head while opening the cabinets (which might happen with hinged cabinets).

Louvred Cabinets
Louvred kitchen wall cabinet panels are fabricated with a repetition of horizontal wood slats. The main characteristic of these cabinets is that there is a gap between each slat, which provides ventilation. This is highly useful in moisture-laden areas as they prevent the formation of damp coditions inside.

Sliding-door Cabinets
These wall cabinet doors slide on rollers and tracks to move back and forth. The main drawback of this type of a kitchen wall cabinet style is that since one panel slides in front of the other, it is impossible to see the contents of the entire cabinet at once. Also, these cabinets should be handled gently, otherwise the alignment may get damaged and cause the shutter to slip off the track.

Application of Wall Cabinet
In Kitchens

The kitchen/dining area is the most cluttered space in almost every home. If all your kitchen cabinets are full, there are only two things to do: Purge or install new ones on an empty wall.

In Home Offices

Wall mounted storage cabinets are perfect for organizing your home office. This room can quickly become very messy after spending most of your day working. For all those extra papers, spare stationery and important documents, invest in quality wall cabinets. You can place them right above your desk for easy reach or install them on another wall to keep your workspace uncluttered.

In Bathrooms

No matter how many bathrooms you have, you'll always need more storage to keep them clean and neat. Custom-made wall-mounted cabinets are the perfect solution for storing linens and towels if you don't have a full-sized linen closet. You can also mount cabinets on the wall next to the sink and keep toiletries or hot styling tools in there.

In Bedrooms

Wall mounted storage cabinets are a match made in heaven for kids' bedrooms. Kids are naturally messy, so having an actual place to put away their books and school projects is a must.In the master bedroom, wall storage cabinets can serve as floating nightstands, creating a sleek minimalistic look. They're also great for extra storage in the closet or for storing bedding, socks and underwear, makeup, and jewelry.

Components of Wall Cabinet

Cabinet Face Frame
Although some cabinets are frameless, the most popular american semi-custom cabinet has a cabinet face frame. They are known for providing stability during shipping and installation; however, frameless cabinets are just as stable and durable once installed.

Doors And Drawer Fronts
Doors and drawer fronts are one of the most prominent cabinet parts. Choosing a cabinet door style and color is one of the most exciting parts of the design process. Cliqstudios doors and drawer fronts are made with solid hardwood or high-density furniture board (hdf). The center panel material will vary depending on the style and finish of the door. Cliqstudios' furniture quality wood stains and enamel paints are hand-applied in a 11-step process with a clear, durable topcoat baked on for a smooth, lustrous finish.

Hinges
Hinges are an important kitchen cabinet part, and their quality varies greatly. It's important to choose cabinets with high-quality hinges, because they will be opened and closed thousands of times. All hinges on cliqstudios cabinets are steel, soft-close, concealed and have six-way adjustability.

Book Shelf

Washroom Vanity

Drawer Glides
A typical silverware drawer contains 20 pounds of flatware. That means having hardwood drawer boxes with glides that can hold at least 75 pounds is best. Soft-close, steel, undermount glides come standard on all cliqstudios cabinetry.

Drawer Box
The standard for quality in american cabinetry calls for a drawer box with solid hardwood sides and back at least ½-inch thick, built with dovetail joints. The bottom should be fully captured, meaning it is set in grooves on all four sides.

Interior Finish Material
Kitchen cabinet interior and shelf surfaces should be non-porous so they can easily wipe clean. This helps extend the life of the cabinets without interiors staining, bubbling or showing wear. Standard interior surface materials include melamine and laminates. They are generally a light natural maple wood-tone color to make the contents easy to see. A wood veneer interior or shelf surface will absorb moisture, stain easily and trap soil in the grain of the wood. Rather than a laminate interior, glass-front cabinets often match the interior to the exterior finish.

Cabinet Shelves
Plywood and furniture board are the most common materials for cabinet shelves. Because this cabinet component bears weight, strength is a primary consideration. Base cabinets have full-depth or half-depth shelving. Cabinet shelving can be ½-inch thick, but ¾-inch is preferable.

How to Choose Kitchen Cabinet Parts

Define Your Style
Begin by determining your preferred kitchen style. Are you drawn to a classic and timeless look, or do you lean toward a modern and sleek design? Identifying your style preferences will help you narrow down options for cabinet doors, drawers, and hardware that align with your vision.

Assess Your Kitchen Layout
Consider the layout and size of your kitchen. If you have a compact space, maximizing storage with cleverly designed drawers and pull-out shelves could be the way to go. For larger kitchens, you might make a statement with larger doors and drawers.

Think About Functionality
Do you need deep drawers for pots and pans? More shelving for organizing pantry items? Taking stock of your storage requirements will help you determine the ideal combination of cabinets, shelves, and drawers.

Explore Cabinet Door Styles
Explore various styles, such as Shaker, slab, or glass. Each brings a unique charm to your kitchen. Shaker doors offer a classic appeal, while slab doors exude modern simplicity. Glass-front doors can showcase your beautiful dishware and add an element of elegance.

Consider Cabinet Hardware
Your choice of hardware, such as knobs and pulls, significantly impacts your kitchen's overall aesthetics. Look for hardware that complements your chosen cabinet style while providing functionality and ease of use.

Select The Right Materials
Pick the material that best fits your space. Wood doors offer a warm and natural look, while laminate doors are sleek and contemporary. Choose materials that match your style and budget.

Consult With Experts
If you're overwhelmed or uncertain, seek advice from professional kitchen designers or cabinet experts. They can provide valuable insights and help you find the perfect combination of cabinet parts that meet your needs and elevate your kitchen.

Material of Wall Cabinet

Medium density fiberboard

MDF is a high-grade composite material made from recycled wood fibers and resin. It's CNC-milled under high pressure, often in one-piece frames with the center cut out for the recessed panel. The dense and heavy product is nearly synonymous with IKEA cabinetry, as, over the years, the scandinavian company has cornered the world supply for their various kitchen collections. MDF attracts consumers because of its resistance to cracking and peeling -meaning it's super easy to paint over. Plus, MDF is smoother than plywood.

Plywood

Many manufacturers gravitate toward producing plywood cabinets not only because it's a relatively low-cost material, but also because it's said to have a higher resistance to moisture and greater stability than MDF. Each board that makes up plywood cabinetry is layered like a sandwich, with thin wood piles glued on top of one another. An exposed plastic laminate, wood veneer or thermofoil coats the outside for added protection.

Particleboard

Particleboard cabinets are maybe the least conventional cabinet-construction method. To create particleboard, wood chips and particles are combined with an adhesive, which is then fused together into the panels. This mixture is the least firm of all the options because it's basically shards of wood ground up into little pieces, and the only thing truly holding it together is the glue.

Stainless steel

While stainless steel gives a kitchen a coveted contemporary feel, it's somehow not as desirable as wood. Stainless steel is more commonly used in professional kitchens, but it's hard to clean off fingerprints and scratches. Stainless steel doesn't expand and contract like wood, making it a nice option for moisture-rich places.

How to Maintain Wall Cabinet

Continually clean
Once every three days, you should clean all kitchen cabinets and knobs. If you clean your kitchen regularly, it will be a lot more effort for you each time you do it. The reason behind this is that surface stains have had time to develop and solidify. Cleaning your kitchen cabinets regularly will help to prevent the accumulation of tenacious stains that cause discoloration.

Harsh chemical cleaners should be avoided.
Chemical cleaners can contain abrasive elements that will wear down your kitchen cabinets. You won't need a harsh chemical cleaner if you scrub hard enough and keep your kitchen cabinets clean to catch stains when they happen. Ammonia-based cleaning chemicals will harm your wood finish and cause your cabinets to age prematurely. If you need to wipe off door handles or cabinet knobs with harsher chemicals, spray onto a rag and then carefully apply over knobs, making sure the chemicals do not come into contact with the wood surface.

All of the cabinet doors are properly closed.
Make sure all of your cabinet doors and drawers are properly closed. If they don't close completely, dust and filth will freely float in and accumulate inside your cabinets, resulting in an ugly, unclean, and difficult-to-clean mess. Furthermore, if you have any pests in your house, from bothersome bugs to curious house cats, open cabinets attract them in.

Moisture should be avoided.
You want to keep as much moisture away from your cabinets as possible; for example, hanging a wet rag from a wooden cabinet is a no-no. Although we all know that wood and water don't mix, we sometimes overlook the durability of our kitchen cabinets. If a cabinet is constantly exposed to water, no matter how many coats of paint or primer it has, the wood will wear away and decay.

Clean with natural products.
Since using harsh chemicals to clean your kitchen cabinets is forbidden, try utilizing a natural cleaner that delivers the same sparkling clean results. To make the best kitchen cabinet cleaning solution, combine vinegar, water, and a touch of olive oil. The vinegar kills bacteria and removes built-up filth, while the olive oil leaves a lustrous sheen. Applying a wood finish for an extra layer of protection can be added towards the end of your ritual; just make sure to read reviews and ingredients because some products cause a sticky buildup that you want to avoid. While you should clean your cabinets regularly, the wood polish should only be applied every 6 months or so.

Cabinets should not be slammed.
Can you say the same about your cabinets? Your house may have a "no door slamming" policy, but can you say the same about your cabinets? We often don't notice when we slam cabinets shut since they don't make a loud noise, but this wears the cabinet down prematurely over time. It can also cause dings and chips on the cabinet's inside lip. You may dissuade individuals from opening and closing cabinets with such force by adding hardware, such as cabinet door handles.

How to Install The Wall Cabinet

Assembling The Cabinet Box
To get started, place your face frame face down on your work surface and run a bead of glue down each of the vertical dado joints. Then, attach two brackets to each side of the cabinets where the pre-drilled holes are located. After your glue and brackets are in place, you may set the side panels into the dado and attach them to the brackets using screws. Do this for both of the side panels. Once your side panels are firmly in place, slide the top and bottom panels into the dados at the bottom of the side panels.

Installing The Back Panel
Installing the back panel is simple. The back panel has two rabbit joints, one on each of the long sides. Slide the protruding end of the joint into the dados on the back side of the side panels, making sure that the back panel sits flush. Once in place, attach three brackets at the top and bottom of the cabinet to lock all of the panels together. The holes for the brackets are pre-drilled to indicated where they go. For one additional measure of stability, secure the back panel to the top and bottom panels by adding screws at the pre-drilled locations running along the width of the cabinet.

Installing The Shelves
Set your cabinet upright, as if it were being placed on the wall. This will allow you to begin installing your shelves. Insert the shelf clips into the peg holes where you desire your shelves to rest and then simply lay the shelves on top of the clips.

Installing The Door
Drop your hinges into the holes cut on the door, inserting the cup side into the door. Screw the hinges into the door using the provided flat phillip's head screws. Locate the pre-drilled holes on the face frame of your cabinet and attach the other end of the hinges to the face frame using the round phillip's head screws.

Final Touches
Your box is assembled, your shelves are in place, and your doors are mounted, all that is left is adding your hardware. Feel free to attach your hardware at any point in the process, as it won't hinder your ability to assemble your cabinets. We recommend attaching your hardware to all of your doors before installing your cabinets to save you the effort that would otherwise be spent installing hardware once your cabinets are on the walls.
